               Universiti Brunei Darussalam accommodates more than 300 academic staff and 2,800 students in seven faculties, namely Arts and Social Sciences, Business, Economics and Policies Studies, Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Institute of Islamic Studies, Science, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Education, Academy of Brunei Studies and Institute of Medicine. The Institute of Medicine, Universiti Brunei Darussalam was inaugurated in September 2000. A 3 year flagship programme of the Institute of Medicine, Universiti Brunei Darussalam leading to Bachelor of Health Science (Medicine) will allow the student to proceed to one of the partner medical schools in the United Kingdom and Australia in order to obtain an internationally recognized medical degree. After successful completion in the PMS, the student will be awarded the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB, MBBS or MD) by the partner medical school. Students from the Institute of Medicine are posted to RIPAS Hospital in various departments including the department of orthopaedic surgery. Doctors from the department of orthopaedic surgery deliver lectures in the University and conducts bedside and clinical teaching in the theatre and outpatient department.

The School of Medicine, The University of Queensland

               The School of Medicine at the University of Queensland was founded in 1936. The School of Medicine extends throughout Queensland Australia and overseas with major sites in Brisbane, Brunei and North America.  Since 2002, close to 300 medical students have completed a clinical rotation at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital in Brunei. On the 15th February 2010 The Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and The University of Queensland signed a Memorandum of Understanding for Academic Cooperation. Students from the School of Medicine in Year 3 of The MBBS course have the option of undertaking their eight weeks of Surgery Rotation which include two weeks in orthopaedic surgery at RIPAS Hospital, Brunei Darussalam. During the 2 week period in the department of orthopaedic surgery the students attend ward rounds, outpatient clinics and operating theatre sessions. Lectures based on the curriculum of the school are delivered during their postings within the department.
